Postcard from Colmar

We keep going back to Alsace.  It's only a two and a half hour drive from home; it is pretty, is an excellent wine region and is also renowned for its cuisine.

Being on the border of France and Germany Alsace has changed hands a number of times in its history and this shows in the architecture, the culture and the dialect.  It's an enchanting place to visit.

Of course, it's prettier in summer with blue skies and window boxes planted out with bright geraniums ... but I think it retains a lot of its charm in February despite the grey skies.

These photos are all of Colmar, a small town between Strasbourg and Mulhouse. We usually head here for a wander round when we're in the area and before we head out wine tasting.

We met up with some good friends from Switzerland and stayed in a village just outside Colmar.  There was much eating, drinking and catching up!  A very relaxing weekend!

  1. Lovely photos, must put Colmar on my list of places to visit. Lots of quilting inspiration too, love the "patchwork" roof!

  2. Colmar looks beautiful! I love the architecture. I've been to Germany once nearly 15 years ago, and I hope to visit again someday. Lucky you!

  3. It looks absolutely beautiful...I love those old building and your photos are great. We visited Alsace once a couple of years ago but the next time I will try and visit little towns and villages rather than heading straight for Strasbourg. Hope you had a fab time!

  7. This looks like a beautiful place to visit. I can see why you keep going back. Hey my Sister is trying to plan a trip to Italy for us and I told her to go to your blog and look at your pictures from a few months ago. She did and she loved it!
